About solar energy
Solar energy (or solar photovoltaic) is energy received by the earth from the sun and converted into electricity using technology such as photovoltaic (PV) panels on rooftops. Solar is viewed as a clean, low cost renewable energy source.
For more information on solar energy, please visit the Department of Primary Industries website - Sustainable Energy
The solar installation process for UE customers is as follows:
Step 1
Contact an electricity retailer to discuss tariff options. It is important to note there may be costs associated if a bi-directional meter exchange is required. Please request further information from your retailer.
Step 2

Contact a registered solar panels provider to organise panel installation. A list of accredited installers can be found here: Clean energy council
Step 3
Following installation of panels, there are two forms that need to be filled out:
Form 1 – contact your Distributor (United Energy)
Form 2 – contact your Retailer
You must fill out a request for a solar compatible/bi-directional meter and confirm your new tariff agreement. Please contact your retailer for this form.
Step 4
Following receipt and processing of both forms, we will progress the installation of your new meter within 25 business days
